Supporting people seeking asylum in Hull.
At Open Doors, we are committed to supporting people seeking asylum. Our foundation offers hope and help, providing a safe space and resources to assist them in the asylum process with care.
Through our teamwork and knowledge, we empower asylum seekers by helping them understand their rights, access important services, and create a new life free from fear.
Our purpose
Our mission at Open Doors is to ensure that everyone seeking asylum gets the support they need to navigate the complex asylum process with dignity. We aim to be a source of strength for those in difficult situations, advocating for their rights and amplifying their voices.
A team of volunteers cooks fresh meals and serves nearly 50 to 60 clients weekly. Another group works hard to grow a variety of vegetables for our Thursday Lunch.
Open Doors provides used clothing and household items donated by the community, along with befriending and advocacy, basic English language classes, raising awareness through events, and offering volunteer opportunities for people from diverse backgrounds. Donations are displayed on tables for clients to take as needed.
Informal music classes help people experiencing loneliness, isolation, stress, and trauma. These classes bring enjoyment and relief, helping them manage frustration and stress.
With the support of Hull University, we strive to create lasting change by working hand-in-hand with local stakeholders and community leaders.
